With a 2.89 ERA, the Oakland A's bullpen is currently the second-best in the American League, but that didn't prevent the A's from tinkering with that bullpen on Wednesday. After carrying four lefties in the bullpen for much of the season, the A's sent one back to Sacramento and brought up a right-handed reliever in his place.

The Oakland A's bullpen has leaned left for much of the season, but it gained a little more balance on Wednesday when the team sent down southpaw Jerry Blevins to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled right-hander Trystan Magnuson. Magnuson will be making his major league debut.

With the addition of Magnuson, the A's now have four right-handers in the bullpen: Magnuson, Grant Balfour, Michael Wuertz and Brad Ziegler. Brian Fuentes, Craig Breslow and David Purcey are the left-handers in the bullpen.

Magnuson joins the A's in Texas on a roll pitching-wise. He hasn't allowed a run since April 15, a span of eight appearances and 11.2 innings. Overall, he had a 1.56 ERA and three saves for the Sacramento River Cats. Magnuson struck-out 19 and walked nine while allowing eight hits for the River Cats.

The 6'7'' right-hander was acquired by the A's for Rajai Davis over the off-season in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Louisville alum is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, and was the Blue Jays' supplemental first-round pick in 2007.

After a rough first professional season in 2008 as a starter (5.40 ERA and 35 walks in 81.2 innings), Magnuson made the move into the bullpen, where he has found sustained success. In three-plus seasons as a minor league reliever, Magnuson has never had an ERA higher than 2.77. Last season, he posted a 2.58 ERA and had a 63:10 K:BB ratio in 73.1 innings for Double-A New Hampshire.

Magnuson will be the first A's player to make his major league debut in 2011. He will be joining the A's in Texas from Memphis, where the River Cats are taking on the Redbirds in a four-game series.

Blevins returns to Sacramento for the first time since midway through the 2009 season. He had a 3.70 ERA and 46 strike-outs in 48.2 innings for the A's in 2010. He began the 2011 season pitching well for Oakland, but had been struggling lately. After allowing two runs to the Rangers on Tuesday night, he had a 4.61 ERA and 12 walks in 13.2 innings for Oakland.
