A's Shake Up Infield

It has been a struggle for Kouzmanoff this season.

The Oakland A's have lost six straight and are looking at a seven game deficit in the American League West. Looking to jump-start an anemic offense, the A's have overhauled their third base situation.

Over the weekend, the Oakland A's designated infielder Andy LaRoche for assignment. On Monday, the A's continued their remake of their third base situation by optioning Opening Day starter Kevin Kouzmanoff to Triple-A and activating infielder Adam Rosales from the 60-day DL and recalling infielder Scott Sizemore from Triple-A. The A's also optioned reliever Fautino De Los Santos back to Triple-A.

From Opening Day when he committed two crucial errors, Kouzmanoff has struggled this season. Through Sunday, he was batting only only .221 with four homers in 46 games. He has also committed nine errors, many of them costly.

Rosales returns to the A's after missing the first two months of the season rehabbing a stress fracture in his foot that was discovered late last season. Rosales had seven homers in 80 games for the A's in 2010. He had just begun his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento. Rosales had three hits in his first game with the River Cats, but was 0-for-6 with two walks in his next two games.

Sizemore was acquired by the A's from Detroit on May 27 for reliever David Purcey. Sizemore is batting .368 with a 1042 OPS in 32 Triple-A games this season. He hit .222 in 17 games for the Tigers earlier this year. Sizemore has been a second baseman for most of his career, but played at third exclusively with the River Cats and is likely to play at third with Oakland.

De Los Santos made two appearances in his second go-around with the A's this season. In 2.1 innings, he allowed a run and struck-out five. He didn't walk a batter, although he did throw two wild pitches. De Los Santos has a 1.77 ERA in 20.1 minor league innings this season.
