Oakland A's MLN: Aliotti Wins It For Stockton

With Vermont's Game Two rained out, there were only a trio of Game Ones on the playoff docket within the Oakland A's system on Wednesday night. In all three games, the home team came out victorious.

Ports Win It In 12

The Stockton Ports took a one game lead in their best-of-three game series versus their rivals, the Modesto Nuts, with a thrilling 3-2 extra-innings win. Anthony Aliotti hit a lead-off homer in the top of the 12th inning to end a tense pitching duel between the Nuts and Ports.

Stockton starter A.J. Griffin and Modesto hurler Edwar Cabrera were both brilliant. Griffin allowed two solo homers but was otherwise tough to hit over seven innings. He struck-out nine, walked only one and scattered five hits. Cabrera matched him, allowing only a solo homerun to Conner Crumbliss over seven innings. He struck-out seven.

The Ports, down 2-1 in the eighth, tied the game on an RBI single by Michael Choice. Choice had a big game for Stockton, doubling twice and connecting on that RBI single in five at-bats. Crumbliss and Rashun Dixon also each had three hits.

The Stockton bullpen was particularly tough on Wednesday. A.J. Huttenlocker and Connor Hoehn both tossed two scoreless innings. Jose Guzman pitched a scoreless top of the 12th and wound-up with the win.

The Ports travel to Modesto to take on the Nuts with a chance to clinch a spot in the semi-finals tonight. Daniel Straily will battle Chad Bettis.

Two Former A's Take Down 'Cats In Game One

A pair of homers from former A's shortstop Angel Berroa and a two-run shot from former A's outfielder Ryan Langerhans were enough to defeat the Sacramento River Cats in Game One of the best-of-five series between Sacramento and Reno.

Sacramento ace Graham Godfrey was roughed up. He allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings, including two homers to Berroa. Jordan Norberto was touched for two runs on Langerhans' homer in his one inning of work.

The Sacramento offense received a boost from newcomer Grant Green, but it wasn't enough for a win. In his first Triple-A game, Green went two-for-four with a double and an RBI. Jermaine Mitchell also had two hits and Chris Carter launched a solo homerun.

Sacramento battles Reno in the Biggest Little City again tonight. Tyson Ross takes on Barry Enright at 6:35pm.

Burlington Blanked By Kane County

Blake Hassebrock was brilliant but Greg Billo was even better as the visiting Bees lost to the Kane County Cougars by a score of 3-0 in Game One of their best-of-three series.

Hassebrock didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. He wound-up allowing only one hit and one unearned run in six innings. He struck-out five and walked two. Pedro Vidal allowed three runs (one earned) in two innings of relief work.

Billo, the Midwest League ERA champion, did not allow a run on three hits in seven innings. He struck-out seven and walked one. Nick Rogers tossed two scoreless innings to earn the save.

The series continues in Burlington tonight.

Vermont Postponed

The Vermont Lake Monsters' Game Two against the Auburn Doubledays was postponed by rain on Wednesday. Weather-permitting, Brent Powers will take on Taylor Hill in Auburn tonight. Vermont has a chance to win the series with a victory.
