The Arizona Fall League season is underway and a number of Oakland A's prospects are off to good starts, especially amongst the position players. We catch-up on the A's AFL action inside...

Five games into the Arizona Fall League season, Oakland A's 2010 top draft pick Michael Choice is already making his presence known.

Choice, who has appeared in four of the five games, leads the league with three homeruns and seven runs scored and is second in hits (eight), OPS (1059) and extra-base hits (four). He is batting .471 for the Phoenix Desert Dogs, who are 3-2.

Dusty Coleman, who was Choice's teammate during the regular season with High-A Stockton, is also off to a good start. He has appeared in only two games thus far, but he has three hits in seven at-bats, including a homerun. Both he and Choice have also been hit by pitches.

Catcher Ryan Ortiz has only appeared in one game thus far, collecting a hit, a walk and an RBI in two official at-bats. Outfielder Grant Green has only three hits in his first 13 at-bats, but all three have gone for extra-bases (a homer and two doubles).

The pitching side of the ledger hasn't been as kind to A's AFL prospects in the early going. Reliever Andrew Carignan is the only A's pitcher off to a good start for Phoenix. In two appearances, he has yet to allow a base-runner over 2.1 innings pitched. He has struck-out four.

Starters Tyson Ross and Murphy Smith both had uneven debuts. Ross allowed two runs in two innings of work, although most of the damage was done early and he was doing a good job of keeping the ball on the ground. Smith cruised through his first two innings before running into trouble in his third inning of work and finished with three runs allowed in 2.2 innings pitched.

Reliever Anthony Capra had a nightmare first appearance. He allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.
