Melvin Top AL Manager

Melvin is a two-time MOY award winner.

On Tuesday, Oakland A's manager Bob Melvin earned his second Manager of the Year award, becoming the sixth manager to win the award in both the American League and the National League.

Under Melvin's leadership, the Oakland A's won 94 games and earned their first American League West title since 2006. The A's won 72 games after June 1 and swept the two-time defending AL Champs, the Texas Rangers, to earn the AL West title on the season's final day. The A's were 13 games behind the Rangers in the division race on June 30.

The A's improved by 20 games over their 2011 record despite trading three All-Star pitchers during the off-season and starting as many as five rookies in their starting rotation at certain points in the season.

Melvin is only the second A's manager to win this award. Tony LaRussa was the other, taking home the honor in 1988 and 1992.
