Venezuelan reports: Cedeno to join Cardinals

Cedeno played for Pittsburgh from 2009-11

Two sources from Venezuela report ex-Cubs, Pirates and Mets infielder Ronny Cedeno is joining the St. Louis Cardinals.

Rumors surfaced on Friday that the St. Louis Cardinals were among a group of clubs interested in free agent shortstop/second baseman Ronny Cedeno, most recently of the Mets.

Cedeno was a Met in 2012
On Friday afternoon, the Aragua Tigres, Cedeno's winter league team, reported that the 29-year-old has come to terms with the Cardinals on a one-year contract for the 2013 season.

That evening, El Periodquito, a newspaper from Maracay, Venezuela, also stated Cedeno has agreed to sign with the Cardinals.

The newspaper report includes the following quote attributed to Cedeno (translated into English). "I feel good, grateful for this opportunity that I have with St. Louis".

There has been no official confirmation from the team as of yet, however.

In 21 games in the Venezuelan winter league season, Cedeno's line was .268/.318/.366.
