A's Moving Arizona Operations To Mesa

Hohokam Park in Mesa, Arizona.

On Tuesday, the Oakland A's announced a 20-year agreement with the city of Mesa, Ariz., to move its Arizona operations from Phoenix to the suburban city. The A's will play their spring and Arizona Rookie League games at Hohokam Park starting in 2015, and their minor league operations will move to Fitch Park in Mesa.

The Chicago Cubs currently make their Arizona spring home at Hohokam Park. The Cubs will be vacating Hohokam at the end of this spring and will move to a new spring training home in 2014. Hohokam and Fitch will undergo $20 million renovations in 2014 and will re-open in 2015 with the Oakland A's as the new tenant.

The A's will continue to play at Phoenix Municipal Stadium and will maintain their minor league complex at Papago Park through the 2014 season. The 2014 season will be the A's 32rd and final year in those facilities.

This won't be the first time the A's have trained in Mesa. The organization made their Arizona home in Mesa from 1969-1978. The A's then moved their spring training home to Scottsdale before settling in Phoenix in 1982. The A's minor league operations have been at Papago Park in Phoenix since 1995.

The renovations to Hohokam Park will modernize the stadium and will include new seating, a new scoreboard, and remodeled clubhouse and weightroom facilities, according to the team's press release. Fitch Park will see all of its practice fields renovated and the team clubhouse expanded.

Hohokam Park is located at 1235 N. Center St. in Mesa and Fitch Park is at 651 N. Center St.
