AFL Update: Quintanilla, Street lead 'Dogs to Win

The Desert Dogs have been as hot as the Arizona desert to start this AFL season. On Friday, they picked up their sixth win in eight opportunities, with A's prospects Omar Quintanilla and Huston Street playing large roles in the victory.

A's middle infield prospect Omar Quintanilla got the game winning hit in the Desert Dogs' 5-4 victory over the Grand Canyon Rafters. Batting in the top of the 8th inning in a 4-4 game, Quintanilla singled home the go-ahead run with two-outs.

That was all the cushion the Desert Dogs would need, as Mr. Automatic -- A's prospect Huston Street -- came on in the bottom of the 8th to get a six-out save. Street scattered two hits in the two innings of work. He struck out two and walked none. Street recorded his third save of the AFL season and lowered his ERA to 1.35.

Quintanilla, who hit second in the game, went 2-5 in the game with a run scored and that game-winning RBI. He raised his AFL batting average to an even .300. Fellow A's prospect Jason Perry chipped in a 1-3, with a sacrifice at the plate. He is hitting .261.

A's catcher John Baker did not have a good night on Friday. He went 0-5 in the game with four strikeouts. He also had a passed ball. Baker's batting average is down to .143.
