The Stockton Ports opened their home schedule on Thursday night at their new home, Banner Island Ballpark. OaklandClubhouse.com Photo Editor Chris Lockard captured some of the scenes from the historic evening in this photo gallery. Free Preview of Premium Content.



The right-field concourse at Banner Island Ballpark overlooks the water. Hitters will be able to take aim at the water all season when they hit homeruns to right-field.










Second baseman Luke Appert takes batting practice at the cages in the new Banner Island Ballpark. The batting cages are located above the seats along the right-field line. Spectators who arrive at the ballpark early can watch the Ports take their swings in the cage while on their way to buy a hotdog.

Ports manager Todd Steverson meets with the umpires and with the San Jose Giants skipper before the start of the first game at Banner Island Ballpark. Steverson became the first manager to win a game at Banner Island when the Ports won, 7-4.







Stockton starter Jason Windsor takes his warm-up tosses before the first inning at Banner Island Ballpark. He struck out the first batter and went on to have a stellar outing, going seven innings. He struck out nine batters in total. The former Cal State Fullerton stand-out is one of the A's top starting pitching prospects.

Lead-off man Luke Appert gets ready to be the first Stockton Port to take a swing at Banner Island Ballpark. The former University of Minnesota stand-out grounded out in his first at-bat, but later walked and scored a run.








Ports first baseman Vasili Spanos contemplates a called strike during Stockton's home opener at Banner Island Ballpark. Spanos went 2-4 on the night, with a double and an RBI. The Indiana alum is hitting .306 on the season for Stockton. Spanos was one of Kane County's best hitters in 2004.




Daric Barton hits on Opening Night at Banner Island Ballpark.

Designated hitter Daric Barton readies himself in his first at-bat at Banner Island Ballpark. The former St. Louis Cardinals' first round pick went 1-3 on the night with an RBI. Barton has been splitting time between DH and first base this season. He had been a catcher in his previous two seasons in the minor leagues.
