Oakland A's MLN: Week In Review, 7/24-7/31
Season Record: 58-51
Notable Performances for the Week of July 24 – July 30:
Dan Johnson: 12-31, 7 R, 2 2B, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 3 BB, 7 K. Johnson has blistered AAA pitching since being demoted to Sacramento on July 15. The former A's first baseman is batting .438 with six homers and 25 RBI in 15 games for the River Cats.
Hiram Bocachica: 12-30, 11 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 6 BB, 4 K, 2 SB. Bocachica continues to destroy Pacific Coast League pitching. He is batting .345 with 14 homers in 177 at-bats for the River Cats. He also has 14 stolen bases on the season, and is the only double-double player on Sacramento this season (more than 10 homers and steals) despite missing nearly two months of the season.
Jason Perry: 6-21, 4 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 5 K. Perry got back in the homerun column this week with two bombs. After a red-hot June, Perry has cooled off a bit in July, batting only .243 with three homers. He has had a good second-half of July, however, raising his average from .253 to .268 since July 16 with all three of his July homeruns.
Andrew Beattie: 6-18, 4 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K. Beattie is having a good month of July. He hit only .253 in June after returning from a spring training injury, but he is batting .288 with three homers and 16 RBI in July.
D'Angelo Jimenez: 13-24, 10 R, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 7 BB, 1 K. Jimenez, the former Cincinnati Red, is finally swing the bat well for Sacramento. He began the week hitting .188 and finished it hitting .279. He is sitting on a seven-game hitting streak and he won the PCL "Hitter of the Week" award for his efforts.
Scott McClain: 11-34, 5 R, 3 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 2 BB, 6 K. McClain reclaimed the A's minor league lead in homeruns with his 19th, 20th and 21st blasts this week. He has also driven-in 79 runs, good for second among A's minor leaguers behind Jeff Baisley's 89. He has nine homers in July.
Jason Windsor: 1 GS, 1 W, 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 BB, 7 K. Windsor returned to the River Cats after 10 days in Oakland and he put together another solid outing for Sacramento. He won his ninth AAA win against no losses.
Brad Ziegler: 1 GS, 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. Ziegler pitched well in his second AAA outing. He still doesn't have a decision for Sacramento.
Kazuhito Tadano: 3 G, 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K. Tadano, after struggling with a knee injury all season, is finally healthy and pitching much better. In nine July outings, Tadano has allowed only four runs in 13.1 innings and he has struck out 18.
Second Half Record: 20-16
Notable Performances for the Week of 7/24 – 7/30:
Kevin Melillo: 8-21, 4 R, 2 2B, 5 RBI, 4 BB, 3 K. Melillo is in the midst of the hot July. He is hitting .315 with 19 RBI in 28 games. On the season, he has 58 RBI and is batting .278. After struggling against southpaws at the start of the season, Melillo is now hitting .310 versus lefties.
Brant Colamarino: 6-27, 5 R, 1 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB, 5 K. Colamarino has been a run-producing machine this month, collecting 25 RBI in 28 games.

Lloyd Turner: 10-23, 4 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 4 BB, 3K. Turner has been a jack-of-all-trades this season, playing all over the field and covering for other injured Rockhounds. On the season, Turner has five doubles, six triples and eight homers for Midland.
Brad Knox: 1 GS, 1 W, 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K. Knox won his sixth straight start in a rain-shortened game on Friday. Even though he went only 5.1 innings, the game was a complete game because of the rain. In July, Knox went 6-0 with a 1.76 ERA in 41 innings.
Marcus McBeth: 3 G, 1 W, 1 SV, 4 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K. McBeth had a strong week, making two outings of more than one inning. In July, McBeth has seven saves and a 1.93 ERA. He has struck out 19 in 14 innings.
Michael Rogers: 1 GS, 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 7 K. After struggling in his first two AA starts, Rogers righted himself with a strong outing on Thursday.
Second Half Record: 18-17

Myron Leslie: 8-23, 4 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 4 BB, 6 K, 1 SB. Leslie has 22 RBI in 27 games in July and 14 homeruns on the season. He has played exclusively in the corner outfield slots and as a DH this month.
Landon Powell: 5-15, 2 R, 1 RBI, 6 BB, 4 K. The wear and tear of a long season may be getting to Powell a little bit. Before this week, he was mired in a slump in July that had dropped his average from .281 to .256. He has it back up to .260 with a strong showing this week.
Eddie Cornejo: 9-28, 3 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 4 K. Cornejo is batting .385 in 27 games since returning to A-Stockton from AA-Midland at the start of the month.
Dallas Braden: 2 GS, 2 W, 10 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 HR, 4 BB, 14 K. Braden recovered from a shellacking in his first outing with the Ports to post good numbers in his next two outings. The lefty allowed three runs on five hits in his first outing and then allowed no hits and two walks in his next outing. He is building up arm strength in Stockton after off-season shoulder surgery sidelined him for the first half of the season.
Ryan Webb: 1 GS, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Webb was a tough-luck loser on Wednesday, but it was a nice rebound effort from his last outing, when he had allowed eight runs in 5.2 innings. Webb is winless in July after going 3-1 in June.
Steven Sharpe: 2 G, 2.2 IP, 2 SV, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. Sharpe has taken over as the Ports closer now that Mike Mitchell is in AA. The Midwest League All-Star has already saved four games since being promoted to High-A in late June and he has 17 strikeouts and one walk in 13.1 High-A innings.

Chad Boyd: 10-25, 6 R, 5 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 6 BB, 3 K, 1 SB. Boyd had a big extra-base hits week and he now has 17 doubles and two homers in 34 games for Kane County this season. He has also brought his average up to .356 for the year.
Toddric Johnson: 9-24, 3 R, 6 RBI, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 SB. Johnson has beaten an early July slump with two strong weeks in a row. He is up to .286 for the Cougars.
Anthony Recker: 7-22, 3 R, 1 2B, 5 BB, 3 K. Recker has increased his walks this month, perhaps due in part to pitchers respecting his power more after he hit six homers in June. He already has 13 walks for the month after collecting six all of June.
Jared Lansford: 2 GS, 2 W, 13.1 IP, 17 H, 3 ER, 0 HR, 3 BB, 8 K. Lansford continued his strong month of July with two impressive outings this week. In his first outing, Lansford had to work in and out of trouble the whole game, scattering 11 hits and allowing three runs (all three runs in the eighth). He was more efficient in his second outing, allowing only six hits and no earned runs. He is 5-0 with a 1.41 ERA in July and 11-5 on the season. Lansford has also improved his K:BB this month, striking out 20 and walking 11.
Brad Kilby: 2 G, 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. Kilby has not allowed an earned run in the month of July, a span of 15 innings. He has a 3-0 record with four saves in July and has struck out 20 and walked only five.

He also has 13 extra-base hits in his first 135 professional at-bats. What is more impressive is that he is putting up these numbers mostly against college-aged pitchers.
Greg Dowling: 8-23, 3 R, 1 2B, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 SB. After a slow start, Dowling is now hitting .308 on the season for the Canadians. The first baseman has had a blistering July, batting .350 with eight extra-base hits and 10 RBIs.
Lorenzo Macias: 3-11, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 SB. Macias was promoted from the A's Rookie League team this week after hitting .293 in 24 games in Arizona.
Chad Lee: 2 GS, 10 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 6 K. It was a tale of two starts for the A's fourth round pick this week. He was hit hard in the first outing, allowing five runs and 10 hits in four innings. However, he rebounded with an outstanding effort in his second outing, tossing six no-hit innings, his longest outing of the year.
Andrew Bailey: 2 GS, 1 W, 11 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 12 K. Bailey was outstanding again this week, although he did walk two batters, his first two walks of the season. He is holding opposing batters to a .171 BAA and has struck out 23 in 23 innings. A trip to Kane County could be in his future.
Scott Deal: 1 GS, 6.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Deal finally lost his first game this week, but still put in a solid effort. The 19-year-old right-hander lasted into the 7th inning for the first time this season. He is 6-1 with a 1.79 ERA on the year.
Jason Fernandez: 1 G, 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K. Fernandez has yet to allow a run in his first taste of professional baseball. The Louisiana native has worked 9.1 innings and has allowed only five hits.
Second Half Record: 1-2
