A's, Street Agree On One-Year Deal
Street is coming off of an injury plagued but effective 2007 campaign. The right-hander missed two months of the season with soreness in his throwing elbow. He had a 2.88 ERA with 16 saves in 48 appearances for the A's. Street went 3-0 with seven saves, three blown saves and a 2.95 ERA and a .198 opponent batting average over his final 19 appearances of the season.
The 2004 AL Rookie of the Year has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the off-season, as the A's have entered into a rebuilding mode. However, he has expressed a desire to stay with Oakland and had been in discussions on a longer contract with the A's earlier this off-season. Street has 76 career saves, fourth most in A's history.
Street was one of three remaining arbitration eligible players on the A's roster along with Joe Blanton and Chad Gaudin. The A's reached an agreement earlier this month with right-hander Justin Duchscherer, who had also been arbitration-eligible.
The start of Spring Training is coming up soon, and A's pitchers and catchers report to Papago Park in Phoenix on Wednesday, February 13 with the first workout scheduled for the next day. The remainder of the squad will report on Wednesday, February 20 with the first full squad workout set for February 21. The A's will open Cactus League play on Thursday, February 28 against the Milwaukee Brewers in Maryvale.
