Outfielder
Carlos Gonzalez took batting practice and ran full speed around the bases before the game. His injured ankle is feeling better and he expects to return from the DL when he is eligible to next week.
Right-hander
Kirk Saarloos got the start for the River Cats. He worked a quick 1-2-3 first inning, but ran into trouble in the second and third innings, when he allowed two runs in each frame. Only two of the four runs were earned.
Right-hander
Randy Wells got the start for Iowa. He was brilliant, allowing only two hits and one walk in five innings. He struck-out four.
Saarloos beats
Sam Fuld to first base on a 3-1 putout in the fourth.
Travis Buck made his first rehab start with the River Cats on Saturday. Buck, who is on the DL for Oakland with shin splints, played five innings in center-field. He grounded out twice and made this diving catch.
Shortstop
Luis Figueroa follows through on a swing. He had a sacrifice fly, a hit and a walk in the game.

Gregorio Petit combined to make the defensive play of the year thus far. Melillo ranged far to his right to snare a
Josh Kroeger ground-ball. With his back to first base and his momentum taking him away from first, Melillo flipped the ball with his glove...
...to Petit, who bare-handed the ball, spun and threw in time to nip Kroeger at first.
Jeff Baisley makes a throw from his knees after diving to stop a grounder in the fifth.
Neal Cotts took over for Wells in the sixth inning. He threw two scoreless frames.
Saarloos went seven innings in the loss. He allowed six hits and two earned runs with four strike-outs and one walk. He threw 105 pitches.
Jeff Gray took over for Saarloos in the eighth. He allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Iowa's sixth run was scored on this play at the plate.
Troy Cate pitched the final 1.1 innings for Sacramento and did not allow a run.
