A's Acquire Roquet From Cubs
The A's figure to be busy this week, as they have a crowded 40-man roster and more players than spots in the minor leagues. Their first move this week was to acquire right-handed reliever Rocky Roquet from the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old Cal Poly alum went 4-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 59 innings for the High-A Daytona Cubs and the Double-A Tennessee Smokies in 2008. He struck-out 63 and walked 30.
Roquet was originally signed by the Cubs in 2006 as an undrafted free agent. He has been used exclusively as a reliever both in the pros and when he was in college. In 115 career minor league appearances, Roquet has a 3.14 ERA and 174 strike-outs in 149.1 innings.
Roquet is the second reliever the A's have picked up from Chicago this spring. In February, the team acquired Michael Wuertz from the Cubs in exchange for Richie Robnett and Justin Sellers.
