As expected, the Oakland A's recalled an infielder and a reliever on Wednesday, one day after the team had four players leave their game against Texas because of injury.
The Oakland A's injury-riddled roster received some reinforcements on Wednesday, as the team recalled two healthy bodies from Triple-A Sacramento, infielder/outfielder
Eric Patterson
and reliever
Kevin Cameron
. The team has placed second baseman
Mark Ellis
and infielder
Nomar Garciaparra
on the 15-day DL. The team has also moved
Justin Duchscherer
from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL to make room for Cameron on the 40-man roster. Duchscherer, who had elbow surgery during the spring, isn't expected back in Oakland until June.
Both Ellis and Garciaparra were injured last night in Arlington, Texas. Both are sidelined with calf strains. Reliever
Santiago Casilla
is also battling a calf strain, but he is staying on the active roster, for now. Starter
Brett Anderson
also left the game with an injury - a blister on his throwing hand. He is probable for his next start, as of right now.
Patterson gets another opportunity with the A's after batting only .174 in 92 at-bats with the team last season. He was currently hitting .329 with two homers and a 983 OPS in 19 games for the Sacramento River Cats. He has nine stolen bases and he stole home on Tuesday. Patterson is a lifetime .196 hitter in 50 major league games.
Cameron gets the call despite not being on the A's 40-man roster. The right-hander has pitched in 58 big league games in his career, all for the San Diego Padres. In 2007, he was a Rule 5 pick of the Padres and he posted a 2.79 ERA and a .249 BAA in 58 innings. He threw only 10 innings for the Padres in 2008 thanks in part to injuries. He allowed four earned runs in those 10 innings. Cameron was signed to a minor league free agent contract this off-season and he was a non-roster invitee to big league camp this spring. He currently is 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA and one save in 11 innings for Sacramento.
