The Rockhounds didn't waste time, winning the first of the three-game set in dramatic fashion on a walk-off homerun in the ninth inning by Matt Sulentic. Midland joins Kane County and Sacramento as playoff-bound Oakland A's affiliates.
It was a game of long-balls despite the relatively low 4-3 score. The Frisco RoughRiders homered twice to account for all of their runs, and the Rockhounds launched three solo homeruns, including the game-winner. Josh Donaldson and Shane Peterson hit the Rockhounds' other two homers.
Travis Banwart got the start for Midland and was solid. He lasted six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He didn't walk a batter and he struck-out six. Mickey Storey took over for Banwart in the seventh and was brilliant once again. He retired all six of the seven batters he faced, striking out three. Storey has yet to allow a run for Midland. Jonathan Hunton pitched a scoreless ninth to set-up Sulentic's heroics.
Sulentic's homer came on the first pitch of his at-bat, which came with two-outs. It was his seventh homer of the season. Sulentic is batting .288 with 52 RBIs in his first season at the Double-A level.
