Biography:
Batted .266 with 14 HR and 51 RBI in 86 games at Iowa in 2005 ... Last recalled on Sept. 13 ... 5-for-15 in first 18 games with Chicago in '05.

The former 1998 American League Rookie of the Year with the Oakland A's, Ben Grieve is a career .269 hitter in 953 major league games entering 2005. He was released by the Pirates in Spring Training 2005 and signed by the Cubs to a minor league contract after being traded to the Cubs following a stint with the Brewers in 2004.

2005 - Pirates: OF Ben Grieve has watched his stock fall dramatically since he won the 1998 American League Rookie of the Year award; he hit a combined .260 with eight homers and 35 RBIs last season with Milwaukee and Chicago Cubs last season. The Pirates like Grieve's .367 lifetime on-base percentage and potential for left-handed pop, giving him the edge over INF Bobby Hill for the last bench spot.
