Drafted by Oakland in the 20th round in 2002. ... Drafted by Cleveland in the first round (No. 14 overall) in 2005.
Hit .403 with 25 doubles, 15 triples, nine homers, 54 RBI and 27 stolen bases in 60 games as a junior at the University of Arizona in 2005 and was named co-Player of the Year in the Pac-10 Conference and one of five finalists for the Golden Spikes Award that goes to the best player in college baseball. ... Overall in college, he hit .361 (236-for-653) with 16 homers, 122 RBI, 52 doubles, 26 triples and 66 steals in 77 tries in 171 career games at Arizona.
Began pro career at Class A Mahoning Valley in 2005 as a center-fielder, though the Indians said they may play him at second base in the Fall Instructional League. He played second and third at Arizona before being switched to left field.
