| Biography: |
Gissell signed with as a minor league free agent with the A's in November 2007. The right-hander had spent the previous two seasons in Japan with the Seibu Lions. In 2006, Gissell had a 3.54 ERA in 109 innings with Seibu, but he struggled in 2007 to the tune of a 5.21 ERA in 74.1 innings.
Prior to his time in Japan, Gissell spent 10 seasons in the minor leagues. He began his career with the Chicago Cubs organization in 1996. After seven years with Chicago, Gissell signed with the Colorado Rockies in 2003. In 2004, Gissell had his best season, winning 14 games and posting a 3.67 ERA for Colorado's Triple-A affiliate, Colorado Springs. He made his major-league debut with the Rockies that year, allowing 14 runs in 8.2 innings.
Gissell spent the 2005 season with Triple-A Memphis of the St. Louis Cardinals organization, where he had a 3.54 ERA in 137.1 innings. He is a Bay Area native, although he went to high school in Washington. |
