| Biography: |
Putnam had an up-and-down 2007 season. He started the year off well with Double-A Midland, batting .327 with a 1001 OPS in 52 at-bats. That earned Putnam a promotion to the major leagues. He made his major-league debut with the A's in Baltimore on April 23rd. He collected his first major-league hit against lefty Erik Bedard and he drove-in his first run the next day on a bases-loaded walk. Putnam collected his first big league homerun on May 10 in Kansas City.
Putnam was sent back to Triple-A Sacramento on May 11. He was hit by a pitch soon after that and broke his hand. After trying to play through the injury, Putnam was eventually shut-down and missed more than a month. He struggled when he returned to Sacramento and hit only .216 for the River Cats with one homer. Putnam hit two homers, including a walk-off homer, in Game Four of the River Cats' PCL Divisional Playoff Series.
Putnam was designated off of the A's 40-man roster just before the start of Spring Training and was invited to the A's big league camp as a non-roster player. He was a corner outfielder before the 2007 season, but he spent a lot of time in centerfield in 2007, increasing his versatility. |
