Biography:
Pitched 19 seasons in the major leagues, with the Mets and Phillies, including pitching for the Mets in the 1973 World Series and the Phillies in the 1980 World Series. Recorded 180 career saves in 785 relief appearances. Also made 24 major league starts. Finished his career with an ERA of 3.14, winning 96 games. Coined the phrase "Ya Gotta Believe" while pitching with the Mets. Tug is the father of country singer Tim McGraw.
