Mike Aviles traded to Boston
Navarro, 23, started the season in Triple-A Pawtucket and was promoted to the big league club on June 30, hitting .216 in 16 games for the Red Sox. The Royals just finished a series with Boston in which Navarro played in all four games, going 4-for-12 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. He will join the Royals in Cleveland on Sunday.
Volz, a 23-year-old right-hander, was at High-A Salem pitching in a relief role with a record of 2-3, two saves, and a 3.33 ERA, while striking out 56 batters over 51.1 innings in 31 appearances. The former Baylor Bear and 2008 Team USA member will be assigned to High-A Wilmington.
Aviles was hitting .222 with five home runs and 31 RBIs in 53 games for the Royals. He split time at Omaha and Kansas City this year before rejoining the Royals after Wilson Betemit was traded to the Tigers. He made his major league debut with Kansas City in 2008 and hit .325 while being named as the Royals Player of the Year. Aviles will likely fill the same role with first place Boston as a utility player.
