Class Overview

Seven notable prep prospects from the area turned pro in 2013 with five of the seven coming from Arizona, consistently the most productive of the states in this grouping. The 2nd rounders were Nevada RHP Andrew Church/Mets and Arizona 2Bs Dustin Peterson/Padres and Riley Unroe/Rays, the 3rd rounder was Arizona RHP Patrick Murphy/Blue Jays and in the 4th/5th rounds, Idaho OF Mason Smith/Padres and overslot Arizona products 1B Cody Bellinger/Dodgers and 2B Jamie Westbrook/D'Backs. The only top 3 round prep prospect in the region that ended up going to school was Reno-area SS Garrett Hampson, who enrolled at Long Beach State and could be a first rounder in three years with continued development. This year's class has it's strength in Arizona and is about the same with high-end talent and depth as in 2013.

Recruiting Overview

While none of these states are on the west coast per se, they are squarely in the footprint of the Pac-12 and as the major conference in the area, it predictably scooped up the top players early on. No one school is dominating but Oregon is notable here as a rising power to rival Oregon State with the Ducks having two of the top players in this area, 2013 sandwich rounder LHP Matt Krook not signing and getting to campus and recruiting a solid haul from California this year including #1 prep prospect C/RF Alex Jackson..
