Quick Hits: Nunez The 'Future'

The Futures Game rosters were announced on Tuesday and the Oakland A's have one name on the list.

Nunez Heading to Futures Game

Stockton Ports' third baseman Renato Nunez will be the Oakland A's representative at the 2014 MLB All-Star Futures Game in Minneapolis in July. Nunez is the only member of the A's organization on the Futures Game roster this season. Michael Ynoa and Addison Russell were the A's representatives in 2013. Nunez, who is from Venezuela, will compete for the World team.

The 20-year-old infielder has been on a hot streak of late. Over his last 10 games, he is batting .444/.524/.889 and he has five extra-base hits in his last two games. This recent surge has pushed his overall slashline to .274/.340/.500 for the season. Nunez has 12 homeruns, second-most on the Ports behind league-leader Matt Olson.

Ports Win Eighth Straight

The Ports earned their eighth-straight win on Tuesday when they beat the Lancaster Jethawks by a score of 6-4. Stockton is 6-0 to start the second half and their overall record of 43-33 is third-best in the Cal League and second-best in the Cal League's Northern Division.

Chapman Collects First Hit for Beloit

A's 2014 top-pick Matt Chapman made his Beloit Snappers' debut on Tuesday night and he picked up an RBI single in four at-bats. Chapman now has seven hits in his first 18 at-bats as a pro.

Forsythe to Sacramento

Midland catcher Blake Forsythe received a promotion during the Texas League All-Star break, moving up to Triple-A Sacramento. Forsythe replaces Ryan Lipkin, who was placed on the disabled list.

Widely considered one of the top defensive catchers in minor league baseball, Forsythe was batting .224 with a 613 OPS for Midland before the promotion. He was acquired from the New York Mets' organization earlier this season. Forsythe will share time behind the plate with Ryan Ortiz in Sacramento. No announcement has been made yet as to who will replace Forsythe in Midland.
