When the Oakland A's traded back-up infielder Marco Scutaro last November, it was with the thought that Donnie Murphy would take over Scutaro's role with the team. Murphy had flashed a potent bat in 2007, hitting .326 with an 896 OPS in 45 games with Triple-A Sacramento and six homers in 42 games with the A's.
