A's Set Opening Day Roster
The A's will open the season with 12 pitchers, three of which are rookies (Brett Anderson, Trevor Cahill and Andrew Bailey). Oakland will have four rookies on the Opening Day roster, pitchers Anderson, Cahill and Bailey and back-up catcher Landon Powell. Fifteen of the team's 25 players spent time with the A's in 2008.
The A's currently have 41 players on their 40-man roster, so the team will have to move one player off of the roster before Opening Day on Monday.
Oakland's starting rotation will begin with Dallas Braden, Cahill, Dana Eveland, Anderson and Josh Outman. The A's bullpen will have Sean Gallagher, Brad Ziegler, Russ Springer, Michael Wuertz, Bailey, Jerry Blevins and Santiago Casilla.
The A's will carry two catchers -- Kurt Suzuki and Powell -- and six infielders: Orlando Cabrera, Jason Giambi, Mark Ellis, Bobby Crosby, Eric Chavez and Nomar Garciaparra. Crosby will be the team's back-up middle infielder and Garciaparra will fill in at third and first, as well as occasionally DH.
In the outfield, the A's are carrying Ryan Sweeney, Matt Holliday, Travis Buck, Jack Cust and Rajai Davis.
