A's Signing Day A Success As Green Inks

Grant will be in green-and-gold.

Before the start of the final day for signing 2009 MLB draft picks, Oakland A's fans were hopeful that the team would sign at least one of three players: first-round pick Grant Green, fourth-round pick Max Stassi and seventh-round pick Ian Krol. It took some nail-biting, but Oakland made it three-for-three when a deal with Green was announced right at the deadline.

The Oakland A's selected Grant Green with the 13th overall pick in the 2009 draft. Before the start of the college season, Green - a shortstop from USC - was considered a top-five draft prospect. A slow start to his season dimmed his draft status slightly, but the A's were still considered fortunate to get Green with the 13th overall pick.

Green hit .374 with 28 extra-base hits for the USC Trojans in 2009. He was a career .359 hitter in college. Green also excelled in the summer wood bat league last season, playing for the Chatham A's. He hit .348 with six homers for Chatham last summer.

Green is represented by Scott Boras' agency and it was always expected that Green would be a deadline-day signing. As it turned out, that prediction was correct, as Green inked only moments before the deadline.

In signing Green, Max Stassi and Ian Krol on Monday, Oakland spent more than $5 million on draft picks in just one day.
